  • Most of the time when websites say a business is hiring, it just means the store chain as a whole is hiring. They don't mean that specific store is hiring.

  • I’m not going to lie… as a manager, I hate when people come in the store asking about hiring. Like I have 18 people calling/waiting on me in all different directions with a to-do list longer than my arm, the last thing I want to do is stop to talk to you unnecessarily when you could be self-sufficient and do it all online, it’s not like I’m going to remember you anyway among the hundreds of people I deal with everyday. I’ll get to know you during your scheduled interview.

  • Pro tip: fill out the application online before you go in. Then immediately ask for a manager. Don’t spend any time talking to the employees about you trying to apply/work there. Tell the manager that you’ve already applied online and wanted to sit down for just a couple of minutes to introduce yourself. Your chances of getting hired will increase exponentially.

  • For retail specifically grocery stores it's really annoying when people come in for an application especially if we have a manager that loves to disappear randomly, when people come in like this it wastes our time, we would rather you apply online and call or come in after your application to speak to the manager, but there isn't much we can do for you for an application and not many places do paper applications anymore.

  • My dad tried to get me to walk into stores and ask for applications when they were hiring. Most of the time they said to fill out online. Really hard on me because I’m an introvert too. He would know this if he had to get a job recently. He has had the same two jobs for like 10 years.

  • Even though I haven’t ever had a superior position, as an employee I’ve always been happy to help someone else apply for a job and give them advice about how to apply, even offer to help apply if they needed a device to do it online cause I understand the struggle. People that don’t help other people fail in my opinion.

  • Where I work we can only accept online applications. We will give you enough time to explain how and where to do that and be nice but if you continue to insist like this after we tell you that it all has to be done online you won't be getting hired.

  • Whats sad is I actually expierenced something painfully similar. After the rude employee called the boss "some lady wants to talk to you" uhh okay thats one way to put it i guess as she was walking towards me she asked what she could do for me and i quickly politely said I was looking for a job and I swear this woman didnt even stop walking she quickly said "fill it out online and ill call you" without stopping she made a 180 and went back to the office. Both their tones were extremely rude tho. Expectdly I did not apply.

But, we'd rather see the person who wants the job, before looking at the app. You might have a great application, but if you don't take care of yourself, I don't want you around the food, or our guests.

  • I literally can't do anything until you've submitted an application online. I can't hire you with a paper application. If you fill out one of our paper applications I can interview you, but can't hire you until you've filled out the online application. It literally won't let us put you in our system without that online application. It's so much better if you just submit the online application first and then call or set up an interview online.

  • Companies are understaffed right now because a lot of people want to or can only work the same hours. So they aren't going to hire a team of people that only work afternoon. They want people who can be completely flexible. If you can't then they probably won't even interview you. I was trying to get a new job and said I was available all the time. They interviewed me and said they wanted to hire me. I had told them I started a coaching job and had limitations to my schedule, not even that bad just like I couldn't work like 3 nights during the weekday. They said they would think about it and never contacted me again.

    Purple SparklePurple Sparkle6 days ago
  • The thing about this though is that the vast majority of stores, that are not locally owned will be like this because all their hiring is done online for the most part. You're 80% hired if you get called in for an interview, which is mainly done to make sure the impression that your made with you resume isn't a false one, and that your not an uber weirdo in person. The best you will get is a shift manager promising to give your name and number to the store manager if you walk in when the store manager isn't there. Fill out the online application no matter what you do, cause that's the only way you have even a remote chance of getting an interview.

    popcorngoddess89popcorngoddess896 days ago
  • Many times it works best if you fill out applications first and then reach out to make a connection, whether in person or online. That way if they are someone who can help, they can contact the talent acquisition team to let them know to find your application in the system and move it forward. If the application is done after you reach out, and it isn’t already in there for them to pull up quickly, by the time you’ve applied, too much time and hundreds of emails have gone by and your recommendation is buried.

The best way (I found) is to apply online and then come into the store physically the next day to make a good 1st impression and stand out. That is how I did it for my 1st job and I got hired the same day.
